Uttaranchal Congress president Harish Rawat has said the Congress will welcome assistance from the BJP and others in resolving the ''ticklish issue'' of distribution of assets between the hill state and Uttar Pradesh.
In an exclusive interview to a news agency in Dehra Dun, after the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting in Dehra Dun last evening, Mr Rawat said the Congress would like to have a ''constructive'' relationship with the opposition. Amid shouting of slogans like ''Harish Rawat zindabad'' and ''Congress party zindabad'' at the Congress Bhavan, a beaming Mr Rawat attributed the ''hard won'' victory of the Congress to the highly educated electorate of the state which had ''had enough of the BJP's non-performance''.
Mr Rawat said the leader of the CLP in Uttaranchal would be finalised by Feb 27. ''we have sent our unanimous resolution to the 'high command' who will nominate the CLP leader,'' he said.
Asked about the issue of the permanent capital of the state, the 52-year-old leader, who belongs to Almora, said, ''all issues will be resolved according to the promises made in the poll manifesto.'' ''The manifesto will be our guiding document, and no matter who becomes the chief minister, this document will be respected completely and our government in the state will act in accordance with it,'' he added.
