Colombo, Sept 01: An Indian defence delegation arrived in Sri Lanka today and opened talks to help boost the island nation's military training capacity, officials said. An 11-member Indian team met with Sri Lanka's acting Army chief Lohan Gunawardena and was due to meet with other military leaders before returning on Friday, officials said. The delegation comprises representatives from the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force as well as officials from Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd, Bharat Earth Movers and Bharath Electronics. The main aim of the visit is to help the Sri Lankan military increase its training capabilities.
India already provides training to Sri Lankan military personnel, but the latest visit is aimed at helping the local training centres to improve their standards, they added. Bureau Report
