Islamabad, Oct 08: Legendary fast bowler Wasim Akram will be given a warm send-off during the fifth one-day international between Pakistan and South Africa at Rawalpindi
this Sunday.
Akram announced his retirement from international cricket in May after Pakistan failed to go beyond the first round in the World Cup in South Africa.
"I have enjoyed every bit of my cricketing life and it was a great honour to represent Pakistan," Akram said today.
"The people of Pakistan have always given me their love and support, and the farewell ceremony in my honour is also an encouragement for all those who dedicate their life to their country," he added. Akram took a world-record 502 wickets in 356 one-day internationals and 414 wickets in 104 Test matches. He was among several senior players - Waqar Younis, Saeed Anwar and Shahid Afridi - who were axed after the World Cup.
The left-arm fast bowler briefly played for English county Hampshire in this year's English county championship before he was sidelined due to ill health. Bureau Report
