New Delhi, July 10: Indian scientists have succeeded in loading insulin on very small particles called nanoparticles throwing up possibilities of oral administration of the drug to the diabetic. "We are trying to develop non-invasive route for delivery of insulin by developing nanoparticles that are made up of biodegradable polymers to be consumed by oral route," officials at the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), under which the project is going on, said.

"The particles have been constructed and loading of insulin on these nanoparticles has been done. Animal studies related to its release in the body are going on," they said.

Insulin is given to patients through injections and not through oral route as it gets dissociated in the stomach due to its acidic conditions.
