New Delhi, June 23: Indicating a resolve to confront Vajpayee government over the controversial Conditional Access System (CAS), Delhi BJP today expressed "concern" over Prime Minister's nod to its implementation from July 15 and sought postponement of the move fearing a backlash in the coming assembly polls. Party unit chief Madan Lal Khurana wrote to Vajpayee before his China visit pleading that the move be postponed till all "misgivings" on it were cleared. He also met BJP president M Venkaiah Naidu asking him to play a role in the deferment in "consumer interests".

"I am really worried and concerned on this whole affair. The people of Delhi are quite worried," Khurana said in his letter to Vajpayee referring to news reports quoting information and broadcasting minister Ravi Shankar Prasad that he had approved implementation of CAS from July 15.
Insisting that he was not opposed to CAS as such, he told a press conference here that there were "a lot of misgivings" on it among consumers who should not be burdened with any additional charges.

"The system can be useful in principle, but the consumers are not taking kindly and they are of the opinion that with the implementation of CAS system, additional burden would be imposed on them," the BJP leader said.

He said the "people in general are of the view that the implementation of CAS is not in the interests of consumers" and asserted that he would stand by people on this issue.
Khurana said that he would call upon Vajpayee after his return from China to press for postponement.
