Jammu, May 26: BJP today demanded deployment of army in upper reaches of Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir saying militant activities in the area have increased of late. "Militants are seen moving openly in Bani and Sarthal areas of the district and it has become impossible for locals to move around due to threats by ultras", state vice president Shamsher Singh Manhas and general secretary Ajay Jamwal said in a statement here.

The BJP leaders who toured the area claimed local authorities were unable to deal with the situation and protect the lives of people. They said army should be immediately deployed to flush out militants.
