Agartala, Oct 19: Tripura Chief Minister Manik
Sarkar has said that growing militancy was not only hampering
development but also leading to severe mental disorder among
people.
Inaugurating the 29th annual conference of eastern zonal
branch of Indian Psychiatric Society here last night, Sarkar
said "prolonged militancy is not only hampering the cycle of
development, it also causes immense mental disorder to the
people worldwide".
Militancy, he said, had become a global problem and common people were the worst sufferers.
Health Minister Tapan Chakrabarty, participating in a seminar on 'Terrorism and Mental Health', organised on the occasion, said one per cent of the state's total population was severely mentally imbalanced.
He said despite poor infrastructure, the state government has attached due importance to treatment facilities of those affected with mental disorder.
