England have agreed to play an extra one-day international cricket match during the second part of their Indian tour next month, Board of Control for Cricket in India secretary Niranjan Shah said on Tuesday.
"The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has written to me saying they are ready to play the sixth match," said Shah. The venue and date of the match will be announced shortly.
England will fly home for Christmas after the third and final cricket Test against India starting at Bangalore on Wednesday and then return on January 12 for a series of one-day internationals.
The tourists were scheduled to play five one-dayers at Kolkata (January 22), Chennai (January 25), Kanpur (January 28), Delhi (January 31) and Mumbai (February 3).
The ECB had earlier turned down India's request to play two extra one-day internationals in January, preferring to stick to the scheduled five. Indian cricket chief Jagmohan Dalmiya had argued that India would be playing seven matches in a triangular one-day series, also featuring Sri Lanka, in England next year and therefore England should reciprocate on their India tour.
Shah said India were also trying to get a five-Test home series against England in 2006.
"We have agreed in principle, but I can give a clear picture only after the ongoing Test series between India and England is over," he said.
