"Yes, all of the casualties were American," Major
Niall Greenwood told reporters.
"There is still an investigation going on" to determine the exact cause of the downing, although "it has been described as an attack by anti-aircraft missiles," he said.
American troops were today removing by truck the wreckage of the downed Chinook outside the Iraqi flashpoint city of Fallujah.
It was the heaviest death toll suffered by the united States since the April 09 fall of the Saddam Hussein regime.
