New Delhi, Feb 23: The Central Election Committee (CEC) of the Congress is likely to meet for the first time today to begin the selection process of candidates before the coming Lok Sabha polls.
Putting a major thrust on 'winnability' of candidates, the CEC would go through detailed feedback on the grassroot situation before finalising the list of nominees.
All PCCs had been asked to submit inputs to the CEC by February 22.
AICC spokesperson Ambika Soni said keeping in mind the crucial nature of the elections, the party president had put the 'winnability' of candidates as main criteria.
She admitted that in that process a number of sitting MPs might be denied tickets, but said the number should not be much.
Every Pradesh Election Committee had been asked to get inputs on the ground situation and suggestions from the district committees to propose names of the best candidates. The CEC would take a final decision before selecting candidates on the basis of reports, she said.
