Mumbai, Oct 28: The Special Investigating Team (SIT), probing the multi-crore fake stamp paper scam, is likely to question Mumbai Police Commissioner R S Sharma and former Mumbai Joint Commissioner of Police (crime) Sreedhar Vagal with regard to investigations made by them earlier in the case. The duo would soon be sent questionnaires in connection with the multi-crore fake stamps scam, sources told a news agency. Crime branch Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Pradip Sawant was the first official who received questionnaire from the sit.

Sharma was heading the Pune police that busted the fake stamps racket and exposed the multi-crore fraud that was crippling nation's economy. Besides, it was barely a week after Sharma took over as Mumbai police chief that the sit chief, DIG Subodh Jaiswal, had caught prime accused Abdul Karim Telgi at his Cuffe parade apartment in south Mumbai.

The questionnaire to be sent to Sharma will primarily deal with investigations done by Pune Police and issues based on some allegations made by DIG S M Mushrif, sources said.

Vagal, on the other hand, was heading the crime branch when inspector Dattatraya Dal and Assistant Police Inspector (API) Dilip Kamath are alleged to have provided special treatment to Telgi in police custody. Both Dal and Kamath have been arrested and suspended from police service for their alleged role in the conspiracy.

Vagal and Sharma are likely to be asked if they were aware of the activities of their subordinates, and what action was initiated, the sources said. Bureau Report
