Dhaka, Oct 12: Expressing concern at the spread of terrorism, the 49th conference of Commonwealth Parliamentary Association has called for strengthening of democracy among member countries. Over 250 lawmakers, who took part in the General Assembly plenary session which decided not to revoke the suspension of Pakistan and Zimbabwe, underscored the need to defend any onslaught on democracy in CPA member states.
In nearly two dozen workshop spread over a week, participants to the conference deliberated on a variety of issues including governance, empowerment of women and rights of smaller states.
They also stressed on greater cooperation among member states to work for reforms in the united nations and world trade organisation and to protect them (member states) from the undue pressure of donor agencies and countries, a press briefing following the concluding function was told.
