India on Thursday asserted that it was ''fully geared'' up to meet any threat from Pakistan and dismissed Islamabad's claim that tensions were sought to be increased on the borders by New Delhi. At the ''specific request'' of the Pakistan Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) to his Indian counterpart, both spoke to each other on Wednesday afternoon, army spokesman Brigadier Jaspaul Singh told reporters.
He said the Pakistani DGMO was told that the Indian government's policy ''is clear and does not need reiteration'' and added, ''We have no intention of taking advantage of the current complex situation being faced by the western neighbour''.
Pakistan Wednesday said it has put its troops on high alert while claiming that India has moved its troops and air assets near the border and threatened to retaliate in the event of any ''mischief'' or ''misadventure''. Singh asserted that if there was any attempt at infiltration, ''then we are duty bound to prevent it. This is self evident.''
Asked whether there has been any increase in deployment of Pakistani troops across the Line of Control (LoC), Singh said, ''We would not like to comment. But let me say this that Indian Army is fully geared up to meet any challenge should such a situation arise.''
