New Delhi, Apr 17: The BJP central leadership today discussed the political situation in poll-bound Rajasthan following the arrest of VHP leader Praveen Togadia.
Togadia's arrest was among the subjects that came up for
discussion at the hour-long meeting held at the residence of
party president M Venkaiah Naidu and attended by Deputy Prime
Minister among others.
BJP sources said the ruling Congress in the state was setting a trap for itself by having Togadia arrested for distribution of tridents.
The action by the Rajasthan government against Togadia would only help project the VHP as an organisation which has been "wronged", the sources said.
"We don't understand how distributing trishul by VHP was creating problem for the Congress in Rajasthan. After all, it is only being given to members within the organisation and not outside. Besides, distributing trishuls is a tradition in Rajasthan," the sources said.
"What is wrong in distributing trishuls when Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh distributed swords in the capital yesterday at a meeting," the sources said.
