Siliguri, Oct 04: Life came to a standstill in the three hill sub-divisions of Darjeeling district in West Bengal today during the GNLF-sponsored bandh in protest against the killing of its Executive Councilor C K Pradhan, official sources said. There was, however, no untoward incident anywhere in the district and the situation was peaceful as police kept strict vigil to maintain law and order, DM Hridesh Mohon told a news agency.
In Kalimpong sub-division a 72-hour bandh is in place since last evening following Pradhan's assassination, while a day long bandh in being observed in Darjeeling sub-division today. In Kurseong also a 72-hour bandh is being observed. The bandh was total and no one turned up for duty in his office, the dm said. Vehicles kept off the roads, shops, business establishments and tea gardens remained closed, while people remained indoors.
The heritage toy train too did not run, he said adding that the police were working at the case to nab the militants.
