Ara, Sept 23: Tension gripped Ara town in Bihar today when a doctor and other staff members of Sadar hospital beat up a local Bajrang Dal leader after a quarrel. Irked over beating up of Bajrang Dal town convenor Pintoo Kumar, his supporters pelted stones at the hospital and blocked roads at different points.

The protestors were demanding immediate arrest of the hospital staff who had assaulted Kumar. According to the police, Pintoo Kumar who had gone to the hospital for his treatment picked up a quarrel with the doctor over some issue following which the doctor and some others thrashed him.

The politician was sent to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH), the police said.

An FIR has been lodged with the town police station against the doctor and seven others. Senior district police officers visited the hospital to take stock of the situation, the sources said. Additional police force has been deployed in the area to maintain normalcy.
