Dhaka, June 01: Nearly 3,000 Bangladeshi students were thrown out of exams for cheating in the first two days of month-long high school tests, officials said today. Authorities had tried to crack down on widespread cheating by posting police outside examination centres and threatening jail for violators.

But nearly 3,000 were thrown out during testing that began on Thursday in English literature and grammar and separate exams for those pursuing Islamic studies.

More than 600,000 students are taking the tests.
