Muzaffarnagar, June 14: The Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) led by Mahendra Singh Tikait is all set to launch its own political outfit to take up the problems faced by farmers. "The three day long mahapanchayat of the BKU beginning on June 15 in Hardwar would discuss the option of floating a separate political outfit in order to raise the problems facing the farmers in an effective manner", BKU spokesman Rakesh Tikait told reporters here.
In the present political scenario when none of the political parties have been able to raise the issues related to farmers' welfare seriously, it was imperative that the BKU consider the option of floating a separate political party, Tikait said.
The mahapanchayat would also discuss the problems of the cane farmers and how the union and state governments have failed to solve them, he said.
"Cane dues worth crores were still pending on the sugar mills but neither the state nor the Union government has taken concrete steps to redress their problems", he added. Bureau Report
