Kolhapur, June 04: Alleging rampant corruption in several banks in Maharashtra, anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare has asked the people to take steps to check the rot. The board of directors of banks in the state indulged in corrupt practices with the support of politicians, he told a public meeting at Gadhinglaj Tehsil, 60 kms from here, yesterday as part of his awareness programme.
“These corrupt people consider the bank and government treasuries as their own property and feel that they have full right to spend it. However, common people should unitedly prevent such corrupt practices,” he said.
“Power out of money and money out of power have become a vicious circle. Unless it is stopped, corruption will not stop,” Hazare lamented.
Later talking to reporters he alleged that the NCP chief Sharad Pawar was shielding corrupt ministers.
Hazare, who has recently levelled grave corruption charges against four NCP ministers, asked Pawar to accept the challenge at a place, date and time of his choice where he (Hazare) would submit all proofs with regard to the charges.
