London, Sept 13: Britain has opposed Israel's proposal to "remove" Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat, saying it would undermine Tel Aviv's own interests. "We have repeatedly made clear to the Israeli government that the expulsion of chairman Arafat would be wrong," Foreign Secretary Jack Straw said in a statement last night. "I urge Israel not to allow justified anger at the continuing violence to lead to actions that will undermine both the peace process and Israel's own interests," he added. On Thursday, Israel's cabinet vowed to "remove" Arafat, saying he was "a complete obstacle" to peace. Bureau Report
