Black, White, and Just Right

Oct 08: Instead of opting for the super-saturated hues or pastel shades often associated with spring, several British designers took a more restricted approach to palette.
The results were particularly fresh, especially in the hands of such avant-garde designers as Preen, Blaak, and Boudicca. All three labels showed twists on the trend: from Preen's unexpected pairing of an S&M–inspired black minidress with girlish, round-toed white pumps to Blaak's funky take on tailored, sporty separates.
But it was the design team of Zowie Broach and Brian Kirby of British label Boudicca that took the look to the next level by using black and white almost exclusively. Rather than seeming gimmick-y, the decision put the focus squarely where is should be: on the incredible clothes.
Details of draping, texture, and tailoring popped where they might have gone unnoticed, with show-stopping standouts that included a red carpet–ready patterned white satin suit with skinny black belt.
