Five eye patients were released Wednesday while 21 others are undergoing treatment at the Guwahati Medical College hospital in Guwahati for post-operative complications developed after cataract surgery conducted at a free eye camp in Assam's Kamrup district.
Health authorities said the patients were examined by ophthalmologists of the Sankardeva Nethralaya hospital in Guwahati.
The condition of the patients was improving and the three seriously affected were being given specialised treatment. The doctors attending on the patients said they had developed complications as they did not follow post-operative guidelines and washed their eyes with water.
The operations were conducted on Monday by a team of doctors from the regional institute of ophthalmology in Guwahati at an eye camp organised by the Kamrup district health department in association with a local NGO Sanbidhan Goshti at Moilabari under Khetri police station.
