Violence marred polling in eight wards of Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC). Earlier, the State Election Commission had deferred elections in these eight wards till Tuesday as it had detected large-scale irregularities in the preparation of voters` list. To quell violence tight security arrangements have been made for polling in Patna. But despite this one candidate was arrested and there were reports of violence and loot. In one area, police had to open fire as booth capturers turned violent. As a measure of precaution schools and colleges have also been asked to observe holiday on Tuesday. Altogether 1242 candidates are in the fray whose fate will be decided by over eight lakh voters in the civic body. Three persons were killed and several others injured on Monday as police opened fire in several places to quell violence during the first phase of state-wide civic elections, held after 18 years. Elections to Patna civic body were not held on Monday.
