London, Dec 07: Tennis legend John McEnroe breezed into the semi-finals of the Honda Challenge seniors tournament at London's Albert Hall with an impressive 7-5 6-3 win over Mats Wilander.
The winner of seven Grand Slams in an illustrious career showed he has lost little of his old magic as he hit a variety of smashes, delicate lobs and devastating serves against his Swedish opponet. The bane of umpires around the world, he also showed glimpses of his infamous temper when he threw his racquet to the ground after hitting a shot into the net.
McEnroe, with three straight wins, now faces either Michael Stich or Henri Leconte in Saturday's semi-final. McEnroe, at 44 the oldest competitor in the event, recently started coaching youngsters in the United Kingdom.
