Ambala, June 08: A CBI team, in search of the suspended and 'absconding' Chandigarh Judicial Mgistrate S S Bhardwaj, today raided the residence of an advocate here.
The team examined some of the documents of advocate Punit Sirpal lying in his office, the agency sources said.

After the team left, Sirpal told reporters that he did not have any relation with Bhardwaj.

"Moreover, none of the members of his family knows me. Today noon some of the police personnel entered my house along with an officer who was introduced as SP, CBI. But I do not understand why they searched my house as I have never had any link with Bhardwaj," he said.

Bhardwaj was nabbed by CBI last month at Chandigarh on the charge of accepting a bribe of Rs 7 lakh on behalf of district and sessions judge, Jalandhar, R M Gupta.

While Gupta was under custody of CBI, Bhardwaj managed to give them a slip and is now "absconding", even as a Chandigarh court has issued non-bailable warrants against him.

Meanwhile, president of Ambala Cantonment Bar Association Davender Bansal while condemning the action of CBI officials, said they searched the house of the advocate "without any search warrant".
