Ahmedabad, Sept 01: The Pota court here today granted 15 days temporary bail to Siraj Jamsa, one the prime accused in the Godhra carnage, sources here said. Jamsa was granted bail strictly on 'health grounds' till September 15 as he has lung cancer and was undergoing treatment at the civil hospital till September 15.
Additional public prosecutor for Pota, Sudhir Brambhatt said, "Jamsa was granted temporary bail under the condition that the court be informed in which private hospital he would undergo treatment."
Incidentally, the Supreme Court today reserved its order on an appeal filed by Gujarat government challenging a high court order granting regular bail to Jamsa and other accused persons. Pota judge Sonia Gokani observed that Jamsa's temporary bail order 'will be subject to the pending order of the Supreme Court', Brambhatt said.
Jamsa and Mohammed Hussain Kalota, both members of the alleged core-group that torched the s-6 coach of Sabarmati Express on February 28 last year, and another accused were granted bail by the high court after the lower court had rejected their plea.
The high court had also simultaneously 'stayed' their release to give the Gujarat government time to file an appeal before the apex court in New Delhi. Jamsa, a resident of Godhra was arrested in March last year. Bureau Report
