New Delhi, Dec 04: After the nail-bitting finish in assembly polls in Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh following are the reactions by the leaders of the state. Advani told reporters, "I feel very happy with the results. I wish they (Congress) realise that their innings is over."

Taking moral responsibility for Congress defeat in the state Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Ajit Jogi today said the party would respect the people`s verdict and work for development of the state as a constructive opposition.

"We respect the people`s verdict and will play the role of constructive opposition in the future development of the state," Jogi said. He put the blame of Congress` defeat on party losing 20 seats in the naxalite-hit areas and said, "We did not win any seat in the naxalite hit area and this is the main reason for the party`s defeat". Expressing "deep disappointment" over her party`s reverses in the assembly elections, Congress president Sonia Gandhi said that the party would have "to pull up socks" for the big electoral battle ahead. Asserting that the party has "not lost hope," Sonia told reporters here that "people expected much more from us." Obviously "we could not perform to their expectations".

Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said the spectacular people`s mandate for the Congress was the result of the development plank on which the party fought the elections.

``But we also owe our victory to the leadership of Sonia Gandhi,`` the Chief Minister said. Delhi BJP president Madan Lal Khurana, who was tipped to become the chief minister in the event of his party coming to power, said the party was disappointed over the outcome of elections. ``But an objective analysis of the results will be possible only after five-six days. Today, it would not be right to do any analysis.``

Putting up a brave face in the backdrop of the Congress rout in Madhya Pradesh, senior party leader Kamal Nath today said that BJP`s promises to the people of the state would fall flat in the coming months. Vasundhara Raje said that the results in Rajasthan were on expected lines and BJP was always confident of winning a comfortable majority in the state. Poll surveys are one thing but one needs to be among the people to gauge their mood. She spent three and half months among the people to know more about the people and establish connection with people at the grass root level. "BJP will respect the mandate of the people and their vote will not go vote," she said.

After BJP`s "historic victory" in the assembly elections, party president M Venkaiah Naidu today said there would now be a "realignment" of political forces in the coming days. He told reporters, "Never in the history of Rajasthan since the days of Jana Sangh have we ever got such a majority."
