Jammu, Dec 02: The state government has decided to develop the Ranjit Sagar Dam in Basholi Hills of Kathua district as a major tourist resort, tourism minister Gulam Ahmed Mir said here. To develop the dam bordering Punjab as a picnic-cum-boating tourism spot with picturesque lake, a comprehensive plan would soon be formulated with the help of experts, Mir told news agencies here today.

After that, the proposal will be forwarded to the Centre for seeking funds, he said.


Basohli, famous for shawls, paintings and scenic beauty, offered ample attraction to the tourists and the development of the dam would attract tourists from all over north India, Mir said.

In the first phase, a circular road will be developed around Basohli town to connect recreational spots.

A motorboat service would also be started in the dam, the minister said.


Tourist complexes will also be raised for accommodation and recreation, Mir said.
