New Delhi, Dec 05: The Lok Sabha elections will be held on schedule in September next year, Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani said today. He told reporters that Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had told the BJP parliamentary party on Wednesday that Lok Sabha elections were one year away.
Observing that the Prime Minister had only asked the party leaders and workers to utilise the time available before the general elections, Advani said "elections will be held on schedule in September".
Visibly happy over the outcome in the assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, Advani said "for BJP, the score is 3-1 and for NDA it is 4-1 (including Mizoram)".
He said of the 73 Lok Sabha seats involved in the four states, other than Mizoram, BJP has dominated in 66 seats in the three states where it won the polls. "This poll outcome will surely give strength to the party in the general elections", he said.
"It is because of the carpet bombing done by the BJP only in the last ten days campaign," the DPM, in an apparent reference to the aggressive campaign of the party, said.
He was talking to reporters at a reception hosted by him in the wake of BJP's success in the hustings.
