Washington, June 11: India will take up the issue of restrictions imposed on outsourcing of call centres and IT services in India by some American states. The issue is expected to come up during commerce minister Arun Jaitley's discussion with top American officials later today. "The government will take up the issue at high levels in the United States and would continue to do so", Jaitley had said at a meeting of the India-China Chamber of Commerce yesterday. However, when queried on the issue at a press conference, Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani said that India would not "plead the issue" as the companies were taking up the issue in their commercial interests. "If any concern in UK, US or Germany decides to ask Tata Consultancy or Infosys or any other concern to help it in so far as outsourcing is concerned, it does so for its own commercial gain", he said. "It is not in any way helping India; its objective is not to help India but to help that company. If any state (in America) feels this is not in its interest and they take a decision, at least India on its own is not going to plead on these issues." Bureau Report
