Lucknow, Dec 03: The Samajwadi Party-led ruling coalition in Uttar Pradesh had made major gains in the state council polls by winning 21 of the 26 seats whose results have been declared so far. Election directorate sources here said that Samajwadi Party won 17 seats , coalition partners Rashtriya Lok Dal got three and Rashtriya Kranti Party one.

BJP won the Varanasi and Rae Bareli seats while former prime minister, Chandrashekhar's grandson, Ravi Shankar Singh won from Ballia, the sources said.

Sitting member Akshay Pratap Singh who is currently in jail under Pota won from Pratapgarh while Samajwadi Party rebel Sunil Singh was victorious from Aligarh.

The seats won by Samajwadi Party are Badaun, Bahraich, Lucknow, Lakhimpur, Sultanpur, Shahjahanpur, Saharanpur, Jhansi, Gorakhpur, Banda, Hardoi,Barabanki, Allahabad, Agra, Azamgarh, Faizabad and Etawah .

Rashtriya Lok Dal won Meerut, Moradabad and Bulanadshar seats and Rashtriya Kranti Party bagged the Bareilly seat, sources said adding counting was still continuing for 10 seats. Bureau Report
