New Delhi, Nov 05: The beauties of yesteryears, vintage and classic cars, will hit the roads to undertake a daunting journey - a 750-km long drive to Shimla and back to Delhi.
The journey might appear easy with today's technically advanced motor vehicle but is very daunting for cars belonging to the classic period, president Heritage Motoring Club of India K C Anand said here today.
"Driving a vintage or classic car up and down treacherous mountain roads is not an easy task. You do not have modern aids like power steering or modern brakes at your disposal," he said.
The uncertainty is the very essence of our movement and the challenge is to bring back these cars to their past glory, Anand said adding that we have timed it with centenary celebration of the Kalka-Shimla train to recreate the magic and romance for which Shimla is famous.
The rally will witness the participation of over 40 heritage cars, including the historic Marques, Rolls Royces, Buicks, Chevrolets and Mercedes among others.
Organised by Heritage Motoring Club of India in association with Purolator, Oberoi Hotels and Himachal Tourism department, the rally will be flagged off on November 08 from here to cover a distance of more than 350 km, of which nearly 100 km is hilly, Anand said.
The oldest car that completes the drive will be awarded Dharamchand Anand memorial trophy and the most elegant car participating in the event would be awarded the coveted Rai Bhadur Oberoi memorial trophy. Bureau Report
