Overnight leader Charles Howell III carded an even-par 71 for a share of fourth place with Chad Campbell and Jerry Kelly.
Briny Baird and France's Thomas Levet are tied for seventh a further shot back, with Fiji's Vijay Singh in 10th.
If Singh wins the tournament then he would clinch the PGA Tour money title this week.

After his round, Goosen, who did not bogey a hole until the 16th, said there was still room for improvement.
"I was a bit better in my iron play today. I seemed to hit it closer today than I did yesterday," he said Goosen.
