New Delhi, May 12: German software giant SAP AG plans to add 500 engineers to its development centre in Bangalore by the end of 2004. "We started 2004 with 750 engineers in SAP Labs India. At present we have 900 developers. Before 2004 ends we want to hire 500 engineers more," joint managing director of SAP Labs India, Martin Prinz, told from Bangalore.
The SAP Labs India's campus facility, built with an investment of 20 million Euros, started functioning in December 2003 and it can accommodate 1200 developers. SAP Labs also has 100 engineers located at another facility in Bangalore's International Technology Park (ITP).
SAP will need to hire more space to accommodate developers that it plans to hire in India.
"The decision on where to locate the developers that we will be hiring in 2004 will be taken in due course. We have the option to hire additional space in ITP," Prinz said.
The developers that sap labs will hire in India will work on the existing projects. "The additional developers that we will hire will expand the development work that is being carried out by SAP Labs India. They will be working on technology platforms, applications and custom development," he said.
SAP had opened its research and development centre in Bangalore in 1998. Last year it had announced that it would spend USD 120 million more on expansion in India.
The USD 20-million SAP's campus in Bangalore is one of the largest campuses of the company outside Waldrof in Germany, where it is headquartered.
