Air India plans to extend VRS as only 248 employees opt for it
New Delhi, Dec 08: Air India plans to extend its ongoing voluntary retirement scheme to pilots and engineers, after 248 out of the targeted 1,000 employees opted for the scheme till November end.

ongoing voluntary retirement scheme to pilots and engineers,
after 248 out of the targeted 1,000 employees opted for the
scheme till November end.
"The target fixed for VRS as per the Air India board
memorandum in its 85th meeting held of January 11, 2003, was
1,000 employees. As on November 30, 248 employees have been
relieved under VRS," Civil Aviation Minister Rajiv Pratap
Rudy, informed the Lok Sabha today.
He confirmed that AI proposes to extend its ongoing VRS to operational areas including pilots and engineers, and said till now an ex-gratia amount of Rs 11.06 crore has been paid to 202 employees, who have availed VRS.
The ex-gratia payment to the remaining 46 employees would work out to about Rs 2.0 crore, he added.
The total staff strength of Air India till October was 15,727.
