The film has been co-produced by Dhanush and director Vetrimaaran along with Fox Star Studios.

"Kaakka Muttai" (The Crow's Eggs) is directed by debutant Manikandan and revolves around two carefree slum boys who are consumed by a desire to eat pizza when a new pizza parlor opens on their old playground.

Realizing that one pizza costs more than their family's monthly income, they begin to plan ways to earn more money inadvertently setting in motion an adventure that will involve the entire city.

"'Kaakka Muttai' is one film which made me proud even before the release. It's a winner of two national awards and got worldwide acclaim as well. When Vetrimaran sent me the script, I just read ten pages and immediately accepted to do the film. The reason is that I could see myself and my brother Selvaraghavan as the two brothers in the film," Dhanush said.

Vetrimaaran, who is the co-producer, said, "I liked director Manikandan's short films and then asked him to send over a script for a feature venture. We always have a thought that festival films will not appeal to Indian audience but I wanted to break the myth by identifying and producing such scripts."

A former wedding photographer, Manikandan is the writer, director and cameraman of the film. The music is given by GV Prakash.
