Bhopal, Jan 28: For the first time after Uma Bharati-led BJP government took over reins in Madhya Pradesh, the state cabinet would hold its meeting outside the capital at the pilgrim centre of Maheshwar today. Incidentally, soon after taking oath as the Chief Minister on December 08, Bharti had flown to Maheshwar for offering prayers at the temples in the holy town.

Though the agenda for the meeting is not clear, official sources said here today that the cabinet is expected to discuss among other things proposals to declare the pilgrim centres of Ujjain and Amarkantak as holy towns. Also, there is a move to impose a ban on the sale of non-vegetarian food items as well as liquor at these places, the sources said.

Necessary arrangements including suitable accommodation for stay and other things have been made for holding the meeting at Maheshwar.

Located on the banks of Narmada river, Maheshwar was once the seat of power of Ahilya Bai, who is believed to be an inspiring force for Bharati. Though this is going to be the first cabinet meeting out of the capital in recent times, the sources said earlier the cabinet had held some meetings during the seventies at Pachmarhi when it was the summer capital of the state.
