Muzaffarpur (Bihar), July 13: A leader of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Arjun Rai, who had unsuccessfully contested the Auara assembly seat in the last general elections, was critically wounded when unidentified persons shot at him at a public telephone booth at Balughat, near here, today, police said. District Superintendent of Police, R K Singh, told newspersons over phone that Rai was fired at from close range by some gunmen when he was at the telephone booth.
Rai, who was hit by six bullets, was battling for life at a private nursing home, Singh said.
He said that an FIR had been lodged in this connection and intensive raids were being conducted in the district to nab Rai's attackers.
