Aligarh, Nov 02: The situation in the town, where curfew was clamped in three police station areas following communal clashes yesterday, was peaceful today with no untoward incident reported from anywhere since last night, official sources said.
District magistrate S M Bobde said that over 100 people had been taken into preventive custody while some had been booked for committing substantive offences.
Indefinite curfew was clamped in three police station areas of the city after several people were injured in clashes between members of the two communities, in which firearms were also used, over the route of a funeral procession.
The administration later extended the curfew to two more police areas of Rasalganj and Gandhi Park.
The four people injured in the clashes and admitted to AMU J.N. Medical College Hospital here, were out of danger and would be discharged in a day or two, Bobde said.
The authorities were planning to relax curfew in phases from tomorrow in view of the ongoing holy month of Ramzan, he said adding jawans of RAF, PAC and police were patrolling the sensitive areas and situation was fully under control. Bureau Report
