New York, July 02: AT&T Wireless Services Inc. will shed around 3 per cent of its workforce this year, or about 1,000 jobs, as part of an ongoing cost-cutting programme, The Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday. AT&T Wireless, the second largest US wireless operator in terms of sales, cut about 2,000 jobs last year, the newspaper said.

The latest round of workforce reductions, which have not been publicly announced, will happen in waves, the report said.
About 200 workers had their last day at AT&T Wireless on Monday, and another 300 are set to be laid off this month, a person familiar with the situation told The Wall Street Journal.
A company spokesman told the newspaper that the cuts resulted in part from moves to consolidate AT&T Wireless operations at its Redmond, Washington headquarters, and in New York and New Jersey.
The spokesman said AT&T Wireless did not have definite information yet on how many people would be affected, and what the reductions would cost. Bureau Report
