New Delhi, Nov 01: The country’s third largest motorcycle maker, TVS Motor Company, sold 61,777 motorcycles in October, down 7.47 per cent from 66,764 in the same month a year earlier, a company official said on Saturday. A statement from TVS said the drop was on account of a fall in sales of a two-stroke model and the firm expected the trend of lower motorcycle sales to continue till December -- by which time it would launch two new versions.
The fall in monthly sales came after the two biggest players -- Hero Honda Motors and second-ranked Bajaj Auto -- reported a 21 per cent and 29 per cent growth in motorcycle sales in October.
Chennai-based TVS said its October sales included 20,779 scooters, 36.5 per cent more than a year earlier, and 21,752 mopeds, 19.3 per cent higher than the same month in 2002.
Total sales, including motorcycles, scooters and mopeds, were 104,308 units -- compared with 100,220 in October, 2002. Bureau Report
