Shillong, Dec 02: Meghalaya Police has arrested an Ulfa cadre and his accomplice allegedly involved in smuggling a truckload of AK-47 ammunition to Jammu and Kashmir via Kolkata three months ago. Serioush G Momin and his accomplice, Rajkumar Koch, were arrested by the West Garo Hills Police from Phulbari on Sunday, senior officials today told from the district town of Tura.

The police believed that Momin was the "key man" for "arranging" a truck for smuggling 25,000 rounds of AK-47 cartridges to Jammu and Kashmir via the eastern metropolis.

The Kolkata Police detected the abandoned vehicle near Taratola on September 03 and subsequently filed a case.

Police officials today claimed that Momin had confessed that he "arranged" the truck from Garo Hills for carrying the ammunition to Jammu and Kashmir. Both of them were remanded to police custody for 10 days.

Saying that interrogation of Koch was going on to ascertain his Ulfa links, they pointed out that Kolkata Police had been informed about the development and asked to come to Meghalaya to carry out further investigation in the case.

Momin, who was also involved in other unlawful activities in the district, had an arrest warrant against him issued by a Kolkata court soon after the truck was seized. Bureau Report
