Tokyo, June 23: Japan's Nissan Motor will supply a hi-tech on-board information system to Suzuki motor to use in vehicles, the automakers said today. Nissan would provide the technical know-how to manufacture and market "carwings" terminals to access the wireless network, while Suzuki would equip its vehicles and sell the system on its own, the companies said.
“By supplying the system to Suzuki, our customer base will increase and we will be able to further develop the system's contents," said Nissan spokesman Kiyoshi Ariga. Nissan began outfitting seven of its models with the system in March last year.
The system provides such information as digital maps of the surrounding area, 24-hour roadside assistance, hands-free mobile phone services and voice-operated email. The yearly fee costs 42.40 dollars a month, Ariga said.
Toyota Motor, which started its own telematics service in October last year, is also set to promote its format, having already won over Fuji Heavy Industries, the maker of Subaru cars, and Daihatsu Motor. Bureau Report
