London, June 06: 'Born Confused', a maiden novel by an NRI Tanuja Desai Hidier, has made it to the US best-seller list. It is a vivid and colourful portrayal of the experiences of an Indian-American. Explosive in places, the story showcases most young Indians who are now being recognised increasingly in America as possessing a distinct personality and having the ability to create their own place in the country's future.

Launching the book at the Nehru centre here, Tanuja, a versatile singer and songwriter said the book reveals the pains and joys of an immigrant teenager dimple Lala, growing up in America.

At a time when the West is celebrating the Indian boom, the novel reflects a glorious blend of diverse cultures and a teenager's journey towards self-actualisation. It deals with the issue of identity crisis experienced by several Indians born abroad.

The book also deals with issues such as first love, drugs and sexuality. Poetic and lyrical in parts, the novel reflects its author's talent as a songwriter.

At the launch, she sang 'Visionary', a song written by her, based on her novel. She is the lead voice of the band 'San Transito', which will release the tracks of her song later this summer.
