New Delhi, Feb 09: Karnataka Chief Minister S M Krishna on Monday met Chief Election Commissioner T S Krishnamurthy amid growing speculation that the state would go in for assembly polls along with the Lok Sabha election. "I am not in a position to give any exciting news byte," Krishna told reporters when asked whether his meeting with EC was anything to do with the dissolution of the Karnataka assembly.
He said the budget session of the assembly was on. "At appropriate time as and when we take a decision either way we will inform you," he said.
Krishna also remarked in a lighter vein that Constitution has not made it mandatory for the chief minister to first call on the EC and then dissolve the House.
"The Constitution prescribes certain methodology as to how to start the process. It does not start with the chief minister calling on the Chief Election Commissioner," he said.
Asked why the government was delaying on taking a decision on dissolving the assembly as the conditions were favourable for the ruling party and virtually there was no opposition, he said, "That would be oversimplifying the matter. I would not like to speculate as to what future holds out." He said that the party was fully prepared and geared for the Lok Sabha polls.
While Krishna has always remained cautious on the issue of simultaneous polls, state PCC chief Janardhana Poojary had more than once stated that assembly polls would be held with Lok Sabha elections. Bureau Report
