Samastipur, Aug 03: In a bid to weed out corruption, 38 policemen accused of misappropriating government money by submitting fake Travel Allowance (TA) bills have been suspended in Bihar, police said.
The matter related to payment of Rs 45 lakh to the policemen on the basis of fake TA bills submitted by them in 2001-02. The money was alloted by the Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) who was acting as the accounts officer, the police said.
The scam came to light when the then DGP R R Prasad asked DIG, Darbhanga to conduct a probe after receiving a complaint in this regard. A committee headed by Pator Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Akhtar Hussain was constituted to conduct the inquiry.

The DSP found serious irregularities in the payment of TA bills. Following the submission of his report, Samastipur Superintendent of Police Meghnath Ram on the instruction of the DIG put the 38 policemen on suspension yesterday.
Those suspended included besides three Sub-Inspector rank officers, 19 Constables, seven Havaldars, seven Civil Jamadars Accountant of the Police Account Office and a retired head clerk of the accounts office. District secretary of the policemen's association Ram Prakash Yadav was also among the suspended, the police said.
