Mumbai, Oct 21: To mark the completion of 50 years of his ascension to Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham, Sankaracharya Jayendra Saraswati would be honoured by various religious and cultural institutions in the city on November 01. The 70-year old Shankaracharya will be honoured at a function at Shanmukhananda Hall in central Mumbai with more than 250 scholars from various parts of the country chantic Vedic hymns, a mutt release said here today.

Shankaracharya will also honour 50 Vedic pundits and eminent scholars from all over Maharashtra on this occasion. The Sankaracharya, who had taken over as the Kanchi mutt head from Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi at the age of 19, will arrive in the city on October 27 to inaugurate the 11-day Athirudra Mahayagna and Sahasra Chandi Yagnas, organized by the South Indian Education Society and held as part of the golden jubilee celebration of the seer, at Sies Complex Nerul, Navi Mumbai from October 28 to November 7.

Jayendra Saraswathi will consecrate the idol of Mahaganapathy at Dy Patel College campus, Nerul, on October 31 and present the Sies-Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi national eminence awards on November 5, at Shanmukhananda Hall, the release added. Bureau Report
