Kolkata, Nov 09: About 95 lakh children in various districts of West Bengal were administered polio vaccines today as part of the pulse polio campaign here. State Health Minister Suryakanta Mishra flagged off the campaign by administering the vaccine to a child at Howrah this morning.
About 95 lakh children in the 0-5 year age group were given the vaccine at 37,877 booths set up in the districts for the pulse polio campaign, Health Department sources said.
There were, however, reports of local boycott against the campaign in Malda and Purulia districts in protest against lack of civic amenities and others.
City Mayor Subrata Mukherjee, who took part in the campaign at a polio booth in southern part of the metropolis, said that a total number of 48 new cases of polio were found in the state.
