Ahmedabad, Jan 04: Only three cases of Polio were reported last year in Gujarat where nearly 75 lakh children will be administered the vaccine in the Pulse Polio immunisation campaign today.
"As many as 164 cases were reportd in 1998, which reduced to a mere three in 2003, thanks to the massive awareness regarding polio-eradication campaign, generated among people", Health Minister I K Jadeja said in a statement here.
Gujarat has received 88.14 lakh doses of vaccine from the central government and nearly 1.25 lakh employees and workers from voluntary organisations will administer the drops to nearly 75 children in the age-group upto five years, he said.
Jadeja said 32,500 booths have been set up at government hospitals, primary health centres, anganwadis and schools across 25 districts and six municipal corporations.
