Jammu, Aug 05: Day curfew was lifted in Kishtwar town of Doda district today following improvement in the situation, official sources said here. Curfew, which was imposed in the town on August one after communal clashes in which 13 people were injured, had been relaxed for varying periods on August three and four, the sources said.
However, police and paramilitary troops would remain deployed in the town to maintain law and order, they said.
The district administration held a meeting of the representatives of people yesterday which was also attended by Deputy Commissioner, Doda and DIG Doda-Udhampur range.
The authorities have also assured families that have migrated from Pullar area that an additional picket of special police officers would be set up and village defence committee members would be provided with weapons, the sources said, adding that assurance was also given to launch search operation in the area to flush out militants.
Meanwhile, state unit of BJP has expressed concern over the migration of Hindus and Gujjars from the militancy- infested Pullar.
"Authorities must take immediate steps to instill security among the villagers of Pullar area by sending security forces to deal with the militants," BJP spokesman Hari Om said.
He also asked the state government to initiate action against the erring officials who mishandled the situation in Kishtwar. Besides, the victims whose properties have been damaged or looted should be adequately compensated, he said.
